Scarlett was told to resign or be fired. She was told to pack her bags; she was put on a bus in Connecticut, and left to find her way back to Australia. All because she was honest about her epilepsy.
As we launch our major June Appeal, I am taking the liberty of asking you to commit even more generously to our work. To make your giving easier, you can donate securely and confidentially, and help make the lives of people like Scarlett a little easier. Please help us raise $200,000 before the end of June.
Thank you for your past support of the work of the Epilepsy Foundation of Victoria. Your generosity has made it possible for us to assist many hundreds of Victorian families and individuals whose lives are complicated by epilepsy and seizures.
You would be forgiven for thinking that the circumstances above happened decades ago.
Unfortunately the story that Scarlett Paige experienced happened in June last year. It was a devastating, not to mention frightening, end to her plans and dreams of working with children in the United States. But we cannot do this without your help; your donation to our June Appeal is vitally important.
It would be wonderful news if I could tell you that we are making inroads into changing community perceptions about epilepsy. Sometimes we think we are, and then we hear another story like this. The great news about this story is that Scarlett is undeterred in her determination to make a great life for herself and other young adults her age who live with epilepsy.
Your donation makes our services possible, so I urge you to donate to our June Appeal. You can help us to provide the services and activities that will give people with epilepsy – at any age – the confidence and skills they need to make their own independent way in our community.
Please make your donation and really make a difference to the lives of people like Scarlett who ask nothing more than an opportunity and understanding from the community. Thank you - we really appreciate your support.
Yours sincerely
Jeremy Maxwell
