CLIENT STORIES - SUDEP & EPILEPSY DEATHS
Death in epilepsy is a confronting and sensitive topic that people with epilepsy, their families, carers, and health professionals alike, are reluctantly faced with acknowledging and addressing. It is not a topic we discuss in this newsletter lightly or with any ease. We do so to highlight the global discussion and research that is being done to reduce the number of epilepsy deaths, and out of respect for the lives – many of them young people – that have been lost through epilepsy.
There are approximately 300 epilepsy-related deaths in Australia each year. Such deaths deprive our community of vital, young lives, and leave families and friends in shock and grief. These are some of their stories.
